This poster belongs to the 105-minute documentary Sepideh, made by Danish documentary filmmaker Berit Madsen. The film is about a young Iranian woman named Sepideh who dreams of one day becoming an astronaut. Her traditional family, however, not only fails to encourage her but repeatedly discourages her and asks her to marry and have children as soon as possible.
We are all familiar with versions of this story affecting girls both in Iran and in many other countries. While traditional societies sometimes impose unreasonable expectations on girls, people such as Sepideh encounter numerous obstacles on the way to their dreams, including struggles against social and even family expectations that the author attributes to widespread ignorance in such societies.
Sepideh refuses to give up. Eventually she succeeds in meeting the woman she dreams of emulating, the first Iranian woman to travel to space, Anousheh Ansari. The meeting changes the course of her life forever.
